Auto shop scams remain a huge problem for consumers today. These consumers are loosing billions of dollars each year because the auto shop is adding on unnecessary repairs to the bill. If one shop gives you a thirty item list and the other only has five, you can bet the thirty item list is exaggerated. Be smart and research where you are sending your hard earned money too. It is better to pay more for a better guarantee than to save money and have the same repairs the following month.

This allows you to have the quote in front of you as a reference. The shop may decide after you are gone to add fees and labor charges not originally in the verbal statement. Know that the estimate may increase some because of what is found when actually looking at the problem or for additional labor that is necessary but the estimate and final bill should not be largely different. This will also prevent other problems from mysteriously arising while you are away. Some mechanics have been known to cut a hose or damage a vehicle to get more money out of the consumer for repairs and labor.
